In one sentence
Everything Crumbs (the Mac app and the Chrome extension) records stays on your own device. We don't collect, upload, sell or share any of it.
What Crumbs records
- Names of the apps you use and their window titles
- URLs and titles of your browser tabs
- How long you spend in each place, plus the notes, to-dos and projects you write yourself
Crumbs never reads the content of pages or documents, takes screenshots, or logs what you type.
Where it's stored
- Mac app:
~/Library/Application Support/Crumbs - Chrome extension: the browser's local extension storage
Nothing is sent to any server. Your trail is kept for 48 hours and daily totals for 60 days, then deleted automatically. You can wipe everything anytime with “Start over” in the app, or by deleting the folder above.
What the system permissions are for
- Accessibility: read window titles, detect the shortcut, switch you back to a window
- Automation (browser control): read the current tab's URL and title, switch you back to a tab
This website's statistics
To know how many people visit and download, this download site records the page viewed, the site you came from, your country and device type (Mac, phone, etc.). No cookies, no IP addresses stored, and nothing used to identify you. This has nothing to do with the app itself — the app's data still never leaves your Mac.
Open source
You don't have to take our word for it: the full source code is on GitHub.
